Ramon Silva is a multi-disciplinary artist working in the mediums of painting, video, photography, performance, sound and site specific installations. Silva's practice oscillates in subject matter as well as in mediums to express a dynamic visual and audio vocabulary. With painting the artists direct visual environment dictates the narrative, color, shape, negative space, relationships between landscape and architecture, geometry and natural forms all are part of Silva's visual world. Whereas other disciplines are informed and driven by pop culture, and themed conceptualism. The act of painting has a far more methodological and visceral approach then the aforementioned mediums due to its analog roots and isolated interaction between artist, material and approach. Video, photography and sound requires a working knowledge of equipment and computer software a completely different skill set. Thus the very act of making art is manifested in an entirely different manner. Although the approach may be different, It is not uncommon to find Silva performing both painting and multidisciplinary applications within the same sittings. in the end Silva's grasp of material and various platforms makes for a unique aesthetic, point of view and growth. Silva sees himself as a musician of sorts churning out cohesive albums that speak to a moment in time and whos next offering is different as the last. In terms of subject matter, aesthetic and narrative, Silva sees himself as a sort of shaman of his own tribe. Within this tribe, the process and the final outcome of art making is more akin to the formation of relics and shrines rather than that of a slick painting hanging on a white wall. This remains true even as the very act of applying, manipulating and installation of art is done with contemporary methods and focus. Conceptually, Silva operates as a vessel and guide decoding and examining relationships between lived or imagined experiences, visions, reflections and vignettes of what could be from the past or in a real time event scenario.
